hey guys before i ask my question just gotta make clear that ive read the threads and searched the forums but i couldnt find the thred i was looking for...

ok sooo my car is a ea fairmont with the el running gear a lucky catback system now my problem is that when i got it in power mode it revs out at 3500 rpm but id like it to go to 5 and when im in economy it goes 2500 rpm now is it possible i can turn that up a notch so say i get around 5000rpm in power and around 3500 in economy...????

If it's shifting at 3500rpm when you have your foot flat to the floor, one of 2 things is happening.
You have the wrong speedo gear in.
Your accelerator cable is severely stretched and the car would be very slow.
When you say EL running gear, does that include the transmission?
What ECU are you running?
What diff ratio?

ok im running the standard ea diff ra tio got the ea transmition running gear i mean the engine the chip manifold ect. ect.

So when you hold your foot flat to the floor, it shifts at 3500?

yeh thats driving in power wich realy gets to me you feel the car kick in after 3000 then it shifts like :(

I'm guessing the trans is the 4spd BTR yeah?
And it's still running the EA trans computer, you havent spliced it back into the EL computer or anything?

nah its the 4spd ea not sure if its running the el tranny computer or not .... but still even if its not it should rev out abit harder then 3500 when im flatsticking i mean my mates in there f**k commodores are killing me

Yeah theres a problem there. just gotta figure out where it is LOL
It sounds like yours is throttle position sensor related, assuming you are running the factory trans computer, diff and transmission.
Could be stretched accelerator cable (a really bad case LOL), or TPS playing up?
Accel cable is easy to check.
Get someone to get in the car and hold their foot flat to the floor (car off), you go under the bonnet, and see if you can still open the throttle body more.

Another thing I just thought of, is it running alright?
Like does it go hard up to that point, then just shift?
Or does it start to run like s**t, get to that point, sit there for a bit, and then shift?

check the accelerator cable (this was the prob with mine, similar simptoms)

if all else fails just adjust ur tacho so it says 5000, ps this may or may not make you idle at 3000rpm

cars running like a animal its just that shifting problem itll get to 3500 quick then like asoon as it trys to go abit higher then that it kicks into second... also mite want to mention for some reason if i drop the car into first it still changes at 3500 :S

Alright, thats weird.
I've got no f**k idea now LOL
Should hold first when you put it in there, i can bounce mine off the limiter all day in first if i want.
