I just noticed that the block and head on my EF have water openings on both sides but the gasket has only tiny little round holes in one side only . Is this right ? I am waiting to put it on but this looks wrong.

Fairly certain its designed like that to promote even cooling and prevent hot spots in the head

As above... This is correct... It forces the majority of the water to the back of the block so it gets to cylinder 6 and then has to flow back to the front again... If the front most galleys were large little water would cool no.6
Cheers, Tim
