Hey guys,

I bought an LED boot set (to make it brighter in my boo) and while cutting the wire to the boot lamp I forgot all about the power!

Well anyway, now the car will crank, and the instrument display comes up on the cluster, but it won't crank over. CC doesn't display, radio doesn't go, interior lights don't go. So how do I fix this?

Surely someone has done something similiar before. Helpppppppp, car stuck in driveway.

IIRC it's the BEM that is being denied power as well as your accessories. Trying to remember the fuse name... CRT LMP maybe?

One of the fuses will be blown - check them all out, replace and you should be good to go.

im assuming you've checked all fuses? incl the ones in the engine bay beside the battery..?

failing that perhaps the relays under the coolant bottle,, specifically the brown one. "ignition power" if im not mistaken?

however if the dash displays it sounds like you have inigtion power?
anyway that would be the first place id check, engine bay fuses and the relay with the brown base under the coolant bottle.

O and climate control display doesn't work but air con does. No central locking, no keyless entry. How do you check the fuses by the coolant bottle? They all looked fine, but don't know how to check them.

Yeah dude - that'll do it.

10A fuse should be about $2 from the nearest service station. If they dont have 10A then get the next closest they have and go somewhere to get the right fuse. Repco, Sprints etc. Anywhere that sells anything car related should have one of those fuses.

CC display etc arent lighting up because that's the fuse that feeds that power... air con would work because its on its own circuit... car wont start because BEM needs to deactivate smartlock, its currently not getting any power!!

10 points martin :)

just to answer your question about the other fuses, visual inspection is good enough, you can see the copper thru the top, when the blow that connection is severed. or you can check continuity across the terminals..?

Yeah I thought that may be it.

WELL it must of been quite a site to see my dad and I struggle to push the Fairmont onto the road and try and park it. The steering locked up and then the car was stuck nose in towards a neighbours house, a** in the road. Luckily they had some fuses, all good now. I was s**t scared for a second there. Thanks guys, and thanks neighbours.

Lol, put the key to IGN turn your steering lock off next time you go a pushn'.

I'd second Bob's suggestion. Even if you only keep one rating of fuse on hand, will get you mobile!! (assuming there's no problem that's causing the fuse to blow continually).

Well guys I was all happy with fixing the car. Then I jumped in the boot to install my new lamps and the boot shut on. I just escpaed then after what seemed for ages by getting my arm through the back seats and activing the 60/40 split seats. I have cuts over my arms and I'm still shaking. Literally crawled from the back seat onto the front lawn and cried, I have never been so afraid. I have never been so close to insanity either, f**k the car.

If you're stuck for fuses in a hurry and have no spares on hand, use the 30A circuit breaker that supplies the power windows, you should be able to survive with the windows up til you get a replacement fuse.

Was at an automotive place today that a good mate operates - had a VX commodore come in for a rego check - no blinkers or hazard lights - turns out they'd blown a fuse a week or so ago and switched one of the others to fix it - poor choice I'd think, using roundabouts/turning is pretty risky without any indication.

ROFL!!! I love this guy haha. Someone buy him a beer! I had the best picture in my head. You crack me up man. I did the same thing with the fuses but the whole boot saga is something. lol. Nice effort man... Dont give up on the car. Even more reason to keep going. Good luck! and keep us posted on anything else lol

Well I can laugh kind of about that today, but when I was in that boot, I really did think I would never see the light of day again. I was kicking the s**t out of my boot, smashing the back seat with my head and the baseball bat.

People kept telling me there is a manual boot release in there, but all I could find was the manual fuel door release.

BE CAREFUL WHILE WORKING IN YOUR BOOT!

never have that problem in the wagon ;)

im not sure if there is a manual release on all models. I think the AU had it.

otherwise you would have to actually manually activate the latch, not too sure how hard that would of been.

Mate I had to FORCE, I mean really force my arm through the top and middle of the back seats and press the button the 40 side of 60/40 split seats. My arm ONLY just made it and I have never felt such relief at seeing light again.

I s**t you not when I say that I went crazy inside that boot, screaming and thrashing around. My back has marks all over it and I have some cuts on my arms and hands.
