Cant see why not.

You can get 1-wire alternators which dont need the light to start up - they just need the one wire straight to the battery. Simple to do.

your car is 12v right?

Try a couple of hot rod/classic shops even.

Use a bosch alternator from say XD, Some Late XF's have a 3 wire connector

Stay away from the king of darkness/warm beer makers (Lucas) alternators.

They cant really handle rev's and are pretty much only rated around 35amp peak.

You'll have the basic Positive terminal, Case Ground, and a Wake up line.
This 'wake' up needs to be connected in series to the ignition via an idiot.

Without it, it won't charge.

The best ones I've found are Bosch off Magna's change the pulley and wiring and in return you'll get a bulletproof 85a alt. Yet, a lot of messing around.

My mate has a '64 XM Falcon that has an EB alternator on it.

I don't remember how easy it was, but its just an example of it certainly being possible,

As been said, you can pretty much use anything that'll bolt on, with an internal reg, and yeah just an earth, pos to battery, and wake up connection.

I converted my mini from a 15amp Lucas dynamo to a 65amp Mitsubishi from a Mazda with an electronic regulator. Worked a treat with 2 pairs of rally lights.
