empty power steering pump...quickest and simplest way is to remove low pressure hose from the back of the pump, get a glass container, run the engine, with lid off the pump, until the pump is drained off most, if not all, fluid (you'll know, the pump makes a loud noise which is when you should switch engine off).

Once empty:
remove serpentine belt shroud
remove thermos (optional...but gives you more room)
remove serpentine belt
shove some rags on the alternator to catch any rogue fluid
loosen* or remove high pressure hose from back of pump (block the pump hole...you might get some leakage)
remove low pressure hose from back of pump (make sure to block hose it with something dirt free)
loosen nut behind the pump
remove 2 mounting bolts at the front of the pump (get a socket and slide through pulley holes)
remove any other remaining bits of brackets on the back of the pump (can't remember but there was something that gets caught while you pull the pump out)

*If you only loosened the high pressure hose in the above step, you can remove by hand once the pump is ready to be removed. Once you undo the high pressure hose, just use your thumb to block the hole while you lift it out. Saves you from having to block it with a rag or something.

Installing pump is in reverse, bearing in mind to use new o-rings where needed.

Hope that helps.

Awesome thanks heaps for that. Emptying it won't be a problem. The old pump has completely shat itself and put fluid over everything

Make sure it was the pump that was the cause, not the high pressure hose or the union join at the high pressure hose.

There is 2 O-rings you need to replace on the high pressure side. The gregory's manual has a good pick of the outlet fitting that bolts onto the high presure side. Generally the front seal will fail all one of the 20 cent Orings at the back of the pump..

Thanks. I'll get the mechanic to check it on Monday. But I blew a pump the same way about a yr ago. So I kind of figured it would be that. Are o rings expensive?
