Ok, so i was just wondering how many other people have had this problem:

I have an EF-II GLi manual, and when accelerating it sorta hesitates and it's all jerky. It's an intermittent problem, so i can't do anything to force it to happen, but it's getting more frequent now. Basically imagine a normal power curve on a dyno sheet with a sudden sharp downwards spike in the power. I've replaced the spark plugs, the leads are only 20000 ks old, there is only minor oil leakage from the block, and i'm 100% confident it's not a fuel-feeding problem.

I think it's an electrical fault (considering how instant the loss of power is), but i don't know what's causing it. I do have a fairly dodgy T5 gearbox (one of the reverse gear teeth seems to be missing) so maybe there could be a tooth missing on the timing fly wheel too? That would certainly cause the timing sensor to get garbled info and cause the hesitation...

Does anyone else have any ideas?
Cheers

Sounds like plugs to me.
I had the exact same problem with my EL 5 speed, and my supposedly low kilometer plugs were f**k.

could be the current draw from ur sound system, being too much for the battery and alternator to handle....as the car is 10yrs old...the alternetor has a good chacne of being factory

It still does it even when the sound system is turned off. It's possible it's the fuel filter, but considering there are no plumes of black smoke coming from the exhaust when it happens, i'd say the fuel system is fine. I've got the car booked in at my mechanic on thursday, i'll get him to have a look at it.

you've got it backwards. if the system is blocked it won't get the right amount of fuel and lean out heaps. thus no smoke

The thing is, the loss of power is VERY sudden, so it just seems like it's electrical. I don't know if a fuel injection problem could cause such a sharp loss. But anyway like i said, the mechanic's on it on thurs so maybe i'll have it sorted before long and be able to tell you all what it was :D

im not too sure but when i took out my fuel filter........the damn thing was blocked. i could barely blow through it and my cheeks would puff up before i got any air through it. then after trying twice a bunch of black guck came out and i was happy that i actually replaced it. and my car had a really rough idle as well as jerking when accelerating after stopping. so under heavy loads the car started to die out on me. lets hope its just a fuel filter cause it would work out cheaper for u. good luck with it shoony
