when the engine in a eb ford is at operating temp both top an bottom raditors hoses are hot, but the water in the bottle with the raditor cap is cold an is it normal to be able to take the raditor cap off,

i wouldnt touch it while its hot but it u really have 2 check the pressure in the cooling system

heat=pressure= spray burn factor

When the cooling system heats up it pressuries which means, as Luxo said, you risk getting scalded if you remove the cap.

Obviously,the engine ist at full operating temperature if the water in the coolant resevior is cold.If the top and bottom hoses are warm,(they wouldnt be hot) as you mentioned cold water in resevior this only means the thermostat has started to open.I would actually take the car for a drive roughly 5km to 10km drive.Then turn the engine off then with a rag slowly open the radiator cap,remembering that it is pressurized (the cap opens in 2 stages,pressure down and turn slowly till you start releasing pressure some coolant will escape if you can stand the heat hold some pressure on the cap to prevent it blowing off.Or you can just leave the cap there,it will still need to be turned half a turn to be removed so i would be too worried about it.

When the pressure has escaped remove the cap and start the engine then observing the heat coming from the open resevior,if you like stick your finger in and im sure it will be nice and hot.

Just remember as previously mentioned it is HOT and also PRESSURIZED.....
