Hello All,

So I replaced the following in my dual fuel EL:
1. Gas converter (the body was corroded and leaking out coolant)
2. Coil
3. Ignition leads
4. Rotor button and the distributor cap
5. Cleaned the throttle body and the IAC

I left the battery disconnected overnight and set the base idle and let the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) relearn using the following steps.

Drive with all electrical loads ON
Neutral with all electrical loads ON
Neutral with all electrical loads OFF
Drive with all electrical loads OFF.

Throttle Position Sensor (setup)
Place the transmission in Drive, Air con off, and let the engine idle for 2 minutes.
To set the wide-open throttle reference position by turning the engine off- but leave the ignition switch to the "ON," position, and then press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it there for 1-2 minutes.

Then put into PARK and switch off the ignition.

There is significant difference now in smoothness compared to what it was before I did all that work (and spending).

But there is a small issue left. When the transmission in DRIVE the idle drops to around 600rpm and idles rough. How can I fix this by setting the rpm bit higher like to 700? Idle in neutral is all good.

Any advice help appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Does the idle drop when you turn on the a/c and turn the steering? If so you likely need to replace the isc.

Hey roughredXR6,

There is no RPM drop when turning the steering or switching on the A/C.

However I just reved it (while on drive) to 2000rpm once while the car was stationary on a lonely street and the RPM dropped and the engine stalled. I started the car then and drove without any issues.

Any ideas?

Set base idle with isc unplugged, as low as possible without stalling.
Don't worry about it stalling on you after a quick rev, give the ecu time to relearn. Mine does that too. It'll sort itself out over the next day or 3.
