How much is it to get a set of headers coated with HPC?
As I got a quote for an exhaust system at $2120 which included...

- Redback mild steel headers with HPC coated
- Redback cat back (re-using original cat converter)
- dyno before and after
- exhaust tip
- supplied and fitted

This is for a 2 1/2" system. Seems pretty steep to me  but I'm wondering about the HPC treatment on the headers.
Any thoughts?

yeah dude it a bit steep.

I got quoted $1000 flat for a lukey 2.5" catback, brand new high flow cat, and 4400's (pacies) all fitted. A dyno run before anf after will cost $100.

You can pick up HPC lukeys for $300ish 2nd hand and a new cat back for $240 fitted.

bloody steep. personaly I really wouldn't bother with the dyno. your not going to gain that much - or just get an after dyno if you want to know your output.

Dyno time is about $100-125 an hour .. when u compare that with the cost of an exhaust for 300-1000 with headers is it really worth it....

and hpc coating that sounds heaps steep - which joint in canberra was this/ City Exhaust in belconnen are really good as are carco exhaust....theres one in fyshwick too that does good exhausts for falcons... The best i found and did my latest setup was tugeranong exhaust or mufflers cant rember the name they are round the corner from tuggeranong square...in between a smash repairs joint and fastners shop...next to jax tyres

I got the quote from DTS in Fyshwick. They're a nice mob but, but I didn't know where they pulled the extra grand or so from. I dont know much about prices for coating things with HPC so I thought that might have been why I was quoted that.

I've been trying to decide recently if I want an exhaust or suspension. Figured that if I went suspension, I'd have no money left and if I went exhaust, I'd have a bit left for something else but this quote with the HPC thing kinda threw me a bit.

I guess I'd better go look around some more.
Thanks for the recommendations Big Kev. Cheers guys!

It's a canberra thing..! Powatone quoted me $950 for Pacemaker 4480's in HPC finish.. SUPPLIED ONLY! Nice guys too but $!

Belco exhaust quoted $11XX for lowering my car with King springs and monroe shocks..!!

Who are DTS?

They're opposite the Canberra Times in Fyshwick and have a 4wd dyno, Subarus etc.

Damn Canberra!
Maybe it would be cheaper to order from interstate then just get someone reputable to install?

Ian at powatone suggested he could do the Pacey 4480's without HPC for about $300 less..

So I guess add $250 - $300 may be the going rate for HPC finish..

Yes, damn canberra for car mods..
(I miss Right Price in Brissy for good and cheap exhausts..)

That price of $2120 is well over the top.. Another one I heard the other day whilst I was in QLD to see family was $1200 for cat back sys for a XH ute from Carline mufflers in Beaudesert.. Also told him it was a dual system, it's fkn L6.. It's unbelievable, a complete fkn joke, what is wrong with some shops?!

I'd suggest ask your mates, somewhere down the line there'd be someone who kno's someone who works at an exhaust shop and could do a deal..

Try Belconnen Exhaust, "The exhaust shop" Mitchell, City Custom in Braddon, Phillip Performance exhaust, Powatone in Fyshwick.. Always ask after their quote on the phone, "what's the best for cash" sometimes helps.. I do :D

Yea I'll pop down to some of the Fyshwick places tomorrow and see what I come up with. But wont be expecting any bargains.
I hear alot of great things about HPC (on extractors) anything bad about them? (besides forking out a bit more dosh)

This is a little old, but how did u go? I'm keen to find a good/cheap exhaust place in ACT.

I'm sick of getting quotes of $365+ for a lukey/ redback catback sys only..

Well it's not a huge amount, but it's up to $100 cheaper in Bris, Syd or Melb! Everying costs heaps here..

I just emailed 16 muffler shops from yellowpages.com to myself at work, will ring them 2mora.

I didn't end up going to any mobs in Belconnen but the best price was from Powatone exhausts next to the Comm Bank in Fyshwick. From what I remember it was roughly $1400 for Pacemakers (with HPC), a redback (from memory) and a tip. All installed of course. Powatone said that they could get pretty much anything. Sorry Locknut but I didn't get the price breakdown for the above Redback cat back from them.

BUT, I stopped with exhausts there as I've since decided to do a suspension job instead within the next couple of weeks. That should put an end to my year of procrastinating about what I'm gonna do to my baby. I cant have both right now.
