Hi guys, since the morning have been colder I'v noticed the EL has been idleing a lot rougher and after first start for the day I go to pull out the drive way and she hesitates alot, drops revs almost to a stall hen after about 5 sec kicks in and taakes off. Any odeas on what I should be looking to clean or replace? As I said above its only happened since the summer has gone and over night temp has dropped.
Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

My EF has been doing the same thing except it's only when i start it after a night sitting, it hesitates to the extreme then WHOOSH she launches off and it never happens again.

On top of TB, 2 bolts, carby cleaner.
Tada!
Mission accomplished!
Actually it might be on the side or something with the BBM, I've never looked.
Not hard to spot anyway, search for "ISC", there'll be a f**k of threads on it.

It isn't the ISC, a lot of Falcons do this and I don't know why.

They will idle fine for the first 30 seconds, go mega chunky and rough, then there'll be a whoosh (from the cannister purge I think), and everything will be fine and dandy again.

It's either a fuel or ignition related issue. Because mine does it when I'm holding the revs at 1500 even.

My procedure every morning is to start the car up, let it idle for 30 seconds, then hold my foot on the pedal until revs rise to 1500, and what happens every time without fail is that the revs will die down to liek 500-600 and it will idle very roughly, there's a whoosh, and the revs jump right back up to whee I was holding them before.

HOWS THAT FOR WEIRD! Seen it in several falcons.

yeh, mine started doing that about 2 months back randomally. it used to be fine, then it just happened 1 morning. now itll do it on half my cold startups in the morning i rekon.

i can usually get about 150m up the road, around a corner, another 30m then around the next corner itll die, ill just leave my foot where it is then about a second later itll lurch foward and go back to how it was and not do it again that day

i have a "solid" gaskit in my isc, mine will stumble if its cold, so i just sit at idle for a min or two, to warm the car up in the mornings.

gives a good time to do little bits to the car, like clear wheels of brake dust each morning, gotta love dba/ebc's lol.

just thought idd pass on a lesson from my father, warm the car up before driving the motor will last longer.

p.s. most stalling probs ive come across in i6's are isc related, so try cleaning or just get a new one.

hope it helps
rushed.

Sounds like what was happening before I replaced my headgasket.

Now that we are black to pretty coldish weather, I find these bloody I6's have a tendancy to start undoing bolts on the manifolds. Extreme hot down to a quick cool off can have the effect of undoing manifold bolts. When the cars heat back up again, everything expands and touchs again and everything happy, no more manifold or head leaks.

Thanks for your replies guys, seems I'm not alone in this problem. I have cleaned the ISC several times and even ran on Premium for 5 or 6 tanks but nothing seems to fix it. I'm not to worried about it, as long as it isn't going to cause any major dramas later on. If any one else has some different things to try please share. I will give the warm up thing a go and see what happens.
Cheers

yeah let her warm up for about 30 sec today, no dive in rpm's and idle was even pretty good.
Seems to do the job!! I remember when I only had to let my XE warm up before driving, seem to forget 1996 was awhile ago and engine is getting on a bit. Thanks guys

My EL used to miss and stutter at start up for about the first 3 to 5 mins.
Cleaned ISC, checked MAP etc. no change.
Checked fuel pressure reg. seemed OK.
Used to go out each morning and heat up a different part each day with a heat gun. Still no joy.
The exhaust gas sensor does not work during this period so that was ruled out of the equation.
Replaced injectors with new ones... Has not missed a beat in 2 years since.
(Touches wood..)
