My car did that when I cleaned the ics it was slightly better.
I bumped up the idle slightly and it stopped it.
But does it idle high and hunt or just hunt around 600-800?

Oxygen sensor:- although ford should have picked that up if they ran a ecu diagnostic code check.....

Thats not necessarly true. Alot of scanning tools won't come up with an oxygen sensor code. Yes, it may say that it's either running rich or lean but wont specifically point to the oxygen sensor. You have to work that out yourself by using the data and assessing what the oxygen sensor is doing.

My dad just had that exact same problem with his NL. But his would stall most of the time.

Turned out to be the map sensor after the mechanic had gone through everything in the car.

And a diag check wouldnt pickup any faulty sensor, unless it was shorted to ground or just not there. It can't tell if a sensor is or isnt running to spec.
