I've gone through all the different posts on rough idling and have checked nearly everything out - except the injectors. I know the most obvious thing is now to check the injectors, but I'm just wondering if that is really the problem because the idle (only a slight misfire every 8-10 seconds) only occurs when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature (plus I've looked after the injectors ie. regular injector cleaner). When the AC is on, the misfire is less frequent. If it were injectors, wouldn't it be noticable when the engine is cold - maybe particularly when it is cold?
Could it have something to do with the valves?

So....
Engine is warm/at operating temp, and I have a misfire...

And...
yes, I've read through most of the threads on rough idling...

If its an EL, check the dizzy and the coil (for cracks).
The dizzy might have the brush in the cap, burnt out.
Have a look and see.

is that a common prob? are they hard to blow up? im having a prob with my el.

just after i drive down the road it plays up for about 5 seconds and i can't figure out what it is

Not sure 51.
I notice with mine that when I have it in drive and with the aircond on, it idles fine at normal operating temp. When it's in neutral or park, it has a slight misfire. I also notice that it seems to have a slight surge or hesitation at higher speed, but I'm not sure if that has something to do with the auto trans or what.

id say its fuel system. do a fault check, it might give a lean code, then you'd know for sure.

how many k's has the car done? if the engine is cold and its lean it should run fine as the fuel has more of a chance to burn completly. when it gets hot it evaporates and burns to quick and therefore runs lean. first thing i'd do is change the fuel filter. it should be done ever 50,000ks at least. then injectors.

but do a fault code thing first.

im having my ignition sys checked tomorrow. i'll let you know what the problem is and how i go

It's done 109000K and I changed the fuel filter about a month ago. Not sure if it runs lean as I find that it guzzles more fuel than my EB. Makes sense what you say though.
Re: fault code. I've never done it before. Have read the tech doc but don't have a multimeter. I'll have to go and buy one.

or use a little light or LED or what ever.

could it be possibe that some s**t found its way to the injectors after the filter?

all the plugs firing? higher vibrations might be killing the spark when hot

Something to check for I guess. It had the misfire before I replaced the filter. All plugs are new firing well. The misfire isn't anything major, but its still a nuisance. A

Naybe something related...
After replacing my radiator on Saturday, I did the computer re-learn. Before doing it, I took it for a rap because it needs to be at operating temp before you do the relearn. The take off was quicker than after the re-learn, but the gear changing was smoother afterwards.

Looks like I should test the codes. I'll just have to follow the instructions. Can't do any harm...

i dunno know but my temp gauge sits on the line underneath normal
i used to have that problem aswell but i noticed the plug that goes to the dissy from the coil was loose

but those problem maybe the early stages of the head going check ur rocker cover bolts if there loose

if your temps not right your coolent sensor is stuffed or the themostat is buggered.

seeings his prob isn't when cold and at strange times like when the ac is OFF i'd say its not the gasket.

It's almost like when the vehicle is under load (in gear, and/or aicrcond on) that the problem isn't as obvious. I'll check the gasket, but the compression all round is between 180 and 190. I've only had the car for just over a month. I had a full mechanical check done, and it came out with flying colours. I don't think they picked up on the slight misfire because you really need to concentrate to notice it.
Yeh, I read the doco on the ECU fix, but that's a little out of my league...

even a local jaycar mob might put them in for you if you park your car there and take it in to them for an hour. $20 and you might get lucky
