Hello lads,

I've got a problem insofar as when selecting the windscreen demister fan the idle quality goes out the window. All the other settings are fine and air is supplying to where it should be. Standard mid-series air (not climate control). You would think that it would be electrical (like a leaking earth) but from what I can see, there is only a single blower setup supplying all air through the interior. Could it be a vacuum leak and has anyone encountered the problem before? I'm hoping it doesn't involve stripping the entire dash.

Thanks in advance.

PS - The offending subject - EF series 1.

idle quality - you mean it is noisy only on windscreen .. there is only one fan which supplies all the air in different places. can you describe it a bit better?

I agree with GTBob, as your heater controls use manifold vacuum to change from one setting from the other, it seems that by selecting the screen it opens up a leak. A vacuum leak will cause the engine to idle poorly. At a guess your leak will be located behind the controls in the dash.

oh the engine idle is bad ... well I wouldn't have gotten that from the post... that would be my guess to.

could be something to do with the idle up solenoid for air con etc. when you select screen it automatically engages air con. if you manually select aircon while it is on face is the idle ok or not.

Yes, the idle whilst using aircon direct onto face is okay - only issued being experienced are when selecting airflow onto windscreen.

To all of you fellows, thanks for the assistance.
