another idea is just to replace the 2 plastic pipes, one with a straight piece from the air box and the other a 60deg bend, cost me $50...

I took a look at that pic but where is the 60 degree bend???

Also, I think you'll find that the mandrel bent pipe will flow a lot better but is it $100 better??????? who knows....

its not easy to see from that photo but, the 60 deg bend is where the pipe enters the rubber bend that comes off the throttle body.

well there arnt any restrictions apart from a non ideal flex bend.

people on here have intake pipes which use that rubber bend off the tb and go direct to the air box, eliminating the flex bend im using, that would be the ideal setup imo, instead of the big u turn over a hot rocker cover.

fast xr. i do like the set up you have, but would look alot nicer with it all in pipe and no rubber.

can the pipe be bent more than 90 degrees with out it breaking or squashing. i know there have been pipes bent 180 degrees, but there is a slight straight bit at the 90 degree mark.

I don't really think you'll find much, if any, gain from having a 3" intake. There's not a huge amount of pressure in the intake pipes anyway, and there won't be unless you're running higher compression with loads higher revs.

As far as I can see doing the s/s piping is for wank-factor. Hell i'm not saying it looks crap or anything, I think it's great engine-bling... I just don't think there's any performance gain from it vs the plastic ones.

Also someone asked what grade s/s to use for doing these - if it were me I wouldn't touch anything below 316L marine-grade. It can be a bit costly, but extremely little if any corrosion ;)

Easiest way to do it would be get a 3" donut. It comes as a full circle and you just cut out the bit you want. If your lucky you might even be able to get a large radius donut.

Hey EB Guy, I work for an Aluminium comp in Newy, as said before it is a great heat conducter but I have had a lot of people buy pipe for air intake and zorsts. If you wanna go stainless though, try Atlas or Midmay at Beresfield Industrial estate. Then you can give Aluminium Custom Engineering a call at Wickham, they should be able to bend/weld anything you need. Let me know if you need the number.

castlegreyskull: i agree, would look heaps better one piece, i got a few quotes for the full peice from between $200-$250, i couldnt really justify that for no extra gains. plus it looks better than stock pipes anyway.

EF-XRAN: i got the car dynod before and after and it gave me 5-6 rwkw, after you add a CAI and a filter and it makes a noticable difference.

your right there isnt much pressure in those pipes, but in the standard system there are restrictions...

304 or 316 or whatever grade doesnt make a difference, either are not going to rust

No we cant bend it were wholesalers, but Aluminium Custom or someone similar will be able to. Any general fabrication shop will do it for you. I'm going away until next Wed, when I get back let me know what size pipe you want and I will do a price, if u want ali that is.

just wandering, why dont they put the entrance of the intake pipe on the bbm on the right hand side of it rather than the left hand side so that it wouldn't have to bend all the way around.
