ask the guy why the oil is a funny colour, (pretend to be a real noob) and if he s**t to you, tell him to go and f**k himself.

as others have said it may not be a head gasket.

is he sure the oil is milky, or is he seeing things also, if hes real keen on it get it tested by a mechanic.

most head gasket blows on newer falcons just caus loss of water to the outside of the head.

if its in bad shape i.e. bad head gasket id expect to see water leaking down the block as the first sign the head gasket needs replacing. if there is water in the oil it would most likely be a cracked cylinder head.

I havent seen it , he just called me on the phone when he as looking at it. He said its definately milky. I said to him to ask the bloke why was he selling , and the dude said hes going o.seas. Sounds like B.S.
As i said hes not looking to pull the engine apart a month after hes bought it, so he has now told the guy selling it that he's no longer interested.
So my mate (Matt) is still in the market for an XR6 or XR8 ute. If you here of any for sale, give us a yell.
Again thanks for all the helpful advice!
Cheers :D

I discovered the head in my EF had issues not long after I bought it. Not sure if I just missed it when I was checkin the car out, or if it really went just after I got it, but yea. She was suckin HEAPS of water through from the overflow and we then discovered the milky oil action. Friend of mine whos a mechanic, and knows fords like the back of his hand, checked it out and did the head replacement for me. New gaskets all round, head surface / pressure test, new set of head bolts and she was good as new. We did also find one of the head studs had sheared off. Tool's who did the last head job must've used the old studs, which aint smart apparently.

All up cost me $450 to replace.

it's definitely the head gasket.

i dont want to pick on you but its not "definately" the head gasket.
95% of the time it is a head gasket, but on occaision it can be a cracked/corroded head (im looking at ppl who havent dont regular coolant flushes), also a cracked block will do it...

please please please dont take that as me arguing with u, but yeh, it can be a couple of other things as well

hahaha yeah.
Take that as definitely AT LEAST a head gasket.

Why you woukld consider buying a vehicle with a rooted engine.

There's plenty more falcons where that one came from... some with no mechanical faults at all :)

If it idles ok then there's a crack somewhere in the head/block, either leaking from water jacket to oil gallery or water blew a passage along the gasket towards the oil passage.

Are you sure you wanna pay $10000+ for that ute including repairs?

You will find that either the head is cracked or the head gasket is gone. Milky oil means that there is water getting into the oil. You should find that you can feel a slight misfire or something of the like in the running of the car aswell.
