Regardless, it will break axles. Is hell on the uni joints, and if you have a manual, will be torture on the box and clutch, even when just trying to park.
Good luck, but i do not reccomend them( from personal experience)

[QUOTE="Papakyep that is 100% correct, the car I have ATM has a spool in it, came that way, plans before end of jan are new motor, bout to be sent away to be machined next week, and once motor is in next thing will be get rid of the damn spool, and put a sensible lsd in the car. trust me I am driving on one now, the first thing I wanted to do when i picked up the car was get rid of the spool, i think I would go to a single pegger before i EVER put a spool in a car i owned. and i mean EVER! spools are great, if your on a track or a strip. there is a reason they are not legal, they are dangerous in the wet pretty much dangerous with anything involving a tightish corner, will chew out your rears in no time flat and one they have chewed up and spat out your tyre that will move on to your drivetrain.

don't put a spool in..

Saying goes, spools are for fools.

+1 for not putting a spool in.

i had a welded diff in my EA and it was the worst thing i couldve possibly done to it.
like terrorist said, its torture on the driveline.

this forum looks down on mods that are illeagle etc, but ive seen many cars with spools run for ages with them if you are gentle to them, but tbh they are a pain in the a*** to drive, and the police can spot one (well hear one) a mile off. from memory spools are what around $100ish, save the extra (or try sell the spool on if you have it already) and get a 2nd hand LSD, from site sponsor FTG as an example 3.23's are from mem $450 and 3.45's are a $550ish.

+10 for the mini spool.

I had a mini spool and 3.9's put in just after I bought the car. (thanks to G&D Diffs in Dandenong - awesome work)
This also runs with the Fordmods selfbuilt shiftkit 24/7. (1st to 2nd is fun in the dry and deadly in the wet)

I have never been pulled over (and yes, most of my driving is down Frankston way) nothing has broken (the EF has big a** 28 spline axles, or you can upgrade to 31 spline billet and full spool if your worried)
The only thing I can pick on is the turning circle is reduced a bit (depending on your right foot) and my suspension bushes have started to complain a bit. (but they due for replacement anyway)

GO THE MINI SPOOL. (or i will give you $50 for it if you dont want it)

I forgot to say, you won't get much more that 18 months from a set of tyres. So budget for that.

driving a spooled car like a granny will only put more stress on things, thats when things start braking.
flogging the car allows both wheels to spin, killing rubber, not your car..

so if your planning a off road race car go for it. but if you have been in a large car with a locked diff, or you pride your car, you no you should spend the extra money and go lsd, plenty to be found for bargain price for if you look around

if you really want a mini spool, get two complete disc to disc diff's..

people come in at work all the time wanting mini spools, cos they are a lot cheaper than a LSD and so if they want them, we fit them

but the cars always come back, axels brake, tailshaft wobbles so much it stuffs the backlash on the diff, and also the real main seal on the auto's and manuals.

Also, Noosa does not have tracfic lights it has 42 round-abouts instead.

worst thing u can do is brake an exel in the middle of the diff housing.

So If you do ever end up getting a mini spool, get another diff housing to put it in, so you can just change diffs.
