I have a EL futura that dad bought new. Always cared for etc and he passed it down my way. I drove it for a few years but isnt driven much these days as I have a newer car that I drive daily for work etc. But the EL has been with our family for many years and I would like to make it just that bit special.

I have some friends who have BA series XR6 Turbos, mostly stock but a few mild mods like exhaust and filters.

Id like to make my EL futura as quick as their XR6 turbos or pretty close. It would be a nice surprise to see a EL futura keep up with them or even pull ahead.

What mods are required? Here is my list

extractors and full exhaust system, intake upgrade and xr6 diff geards 3.45 ratio. Maybe a mild cam upgrade if necessary? Would it then keep a XR6 Turbo honest? remember the EL futura is a good 200 kg lighter than a XR6 turbos

To be honest. You will be left for dead

Solution- Drop in an xr6T engine

+1, you'll be spending big bucks to get power out of a na, rebuild, head porting/ machining, cam/ tune, you'll be better off going forced induction..

you will need about 170-180rwkw to keep up/pass a stock BA XR6T. Intake/exhaust headwork with big cam and tune to suit. XR6 turbo weren't quick until they went to BF.

I'm only worried about keeping with a stock ba xr6 turbo or passing it

My friends have a 2003 xr6 turbo, and another a 2004 turbo but manual. They just have exhausts and intake and one of them has a cheap ebay Monza intercooler. But no tunes, I think they would run no better than flat 14s to be honest. Inside they don't even really feel like turbo as just feels like they progressively make power with revs, no real mid range shove as you would expect like a wrx etc.

So to get a e series futura to run a low to flat 14 surely isn't that hard. Don't they run mid 15s stock.

I've priced up xr6 turbo conversions but I would like it engineered for radical mods. Prefer mods that can't really be seen easily and defected.

Also to be honest a xr6 turbo conversion is a bit price steep for me. I'd like to get away with max $3000 to get my car quicker.

Theres a bloke on here some where pretty sure his names gazza off the top of my head, hes futura had between 180-190 kilowatts behind a manual and that could take a standard ba xr6t but he spent something like 3k just on the head. Then you have to think tune, exhaust, bottom end, diff, clutch, intake, fuelsystem, youd want to have atleast 6k in your pocket to even think about taking an xr6t and thats spending 6k and possibly taking one, if your , mate decides he wants to spend $600on a flash tuner then all you'll be seeing is your mates tail lights and some smoke. Best value for money if you have time and a pocket full. Forced induction, you'll be pissing in the wind any other way.

Would I get away with around $3000 for a used raptor supercharger or those vortechs.

I know it wont be engineered but should give a xr6 turbo a good beating then.

If you want it to be road legal, no. If its for only for drag racing it will be easy. NOS sniper kit is around $450 add $125 to fill the bottle and it should run into the 13's. Mine runs into the 12's and cost under $1700 including the cost of the car and slicks. Most xr6t's I have run are in the low 13's or better.

I pulled this info from the Resources section of this forum. It's for N/A sixes only, and gives an idea of what is possible - and 14 seconds flat is achievable. But I'll bet you none these results were achieved for less than $3000. I have tried to match up the Kw required to achieve those ETs, but the dates are different so could have changes of mod or tune in between. Sorry about the formatting.

It will cost a lot more than 3k. If you want to do it properly. It will be around 8k for a nice setup. Which you could turbo it and flog the na6

I can't comment for all of these cars, but for the amount of $$$ that at least 2 of them spent on working their NA to get into the low 14s, XR6T conversions can be done for similar $$$
