i have a 98 el on straight gas and when i bought it it had a carby engine in it and i want to change the engine to a fuel injected engine like it should have in it..... if anyone knows where i can get a decent motor from i would like to know in sydney would be good lol and was wondering if an au engine would fit in it or would it be too much of a pain thanks

That has an EA fuel injection manifold. It probably has the cfi 'carby' still (although it looks like a carby it has fuel injectors inside).

The actual engine is the same. Just swap the intake manifold over to the EL's and wire it up (might not be easy depending on how much it was butchered).

na shes el just a gas system, see that type at work all the time they use the log manifold so they can use old EA setups easy, prob didnt want 2 buy a newer gas system

I've seen it many times, only on cab's tho.
I guess they get fed up with the gas not being right.... and the 60yo mechanic only likes carb's!

Many I mean 2 times, and both at the wreckers.... one from fire (go figure)
and the other was we... shagged. but niether were dented!
so.. best of all worlds!

No power = no stack
No fire = long life
Fire = short life

everyones a winna!

Better off with an EL engine, less troubles and simular outcome.
AU gasket it, reco top end, plumb it up correctly and be done:)

if you only worried about the poor economy, it may just need a jolly good tune.

as everyone has said (im just putting it all in one post)

you have an EL engine in it already, BUT it has an EA CFI intake manifold,TB/carby/whatever it is, and EA gas setup.

If you want it to be dual fuel again you would probably have to get someone to figure out what exactly has been removed could be just the intake, could be the WHOLE fuel system

that looks like an ef engine.. as the el motors had different tappet covers.... late els had silver * unfinished tappet covers with the 4 litre logo between the oil cap and the second tappet cover bolt.
they also came in black or red ticford ones.
the efs had a long stud in the middle of the tappet cover like that has to hold the twin intake pipes in place.
(el tappet covers look neater)
FYI

That's horrible.

It's like getting a Typhoon and dropping a 1.3L Getz engine in it.
