picked the car up today - $450.00 later! charged me $20.00 an hour, so they reckon it took them 22 hours to change the timing chain! and that price doesn't include the parts which I supplied! seems bloody steap to me!
the bottom guide was broken aswell. at least the engine runs quiet now.

stuff that man. you should have made them stick to original quote

If they did spend 22 hours on the cor and only charged you $20 an hour that sounds good to me. I took my car to the holden yard where I bought it from for waranty work on the rear wheel bearings, machnic said it was tyres (not covered under warranty) and tried to charge me $87 for 1 hour labour. I've worked tyres for fourteen years and know the difference between road noise and bearing noise so I argued the point, turns out that it was the pinion bearing in the diff and warranty. But they are only holden dealers after all.

$20 an hour for labour

normally mechanics charge between $60 and $80 i wouldnt be complaining to much well at least is all going now, id say the problem was the broken guide making the noise.

the falcon chain guides are pretty hopeless they are plastic so the constant heating up and cooling down just make them brittle

It just shows you how reliable the fords are. if it was a holden, would probably take them 4 hrs to replace the timing gears. My mechanic said one time his getting sick fixing Holden's. the only time he gets to work on a ford is when its due for a service.

it would normally take a good mechanic 4 to 6 hrs to replace it, but the more cars they can push throu the day, the better it is for them. numbers = $$$$.

$20.00 per hour? you're laughing. but 22hrs! it must be an apprentice.
