Hey all....i have a problem with my EA Fairmont Ghia 5 Speed...Last week i was driving home from work and the oil light started to flash. At first i thought that i have low oil but then when i got home, i checked the manual and it said that i have an oil pressure problem. I dont know what it means...But i changed the oil and the filter and put Castrol Magnetec in the car and the light still flashed.

Can some one please help me cause i need a solution fast cause i need the car and i dont know what to do.

are the lifters tapping when there is low oil pressure??

it could just be a rooted pressure sender (its a common problem)

how fast does it flash? is it on and then goes off for a while? or is it flashing like the smartlock light does? (i.e. every few seconds)

im not sure if the lifters tap when its got low oil pressure but the light only comes on when the car is warm and then its starts to flash really fast and then it will be on the whole time until the car cools down....Also, what oil woould be the best for my car...The car that clocked over 300,000kms and im planning on keeping it for a while longer.....

I really need help with this stupid oil pressure problem...its killing me that i cant drive it....

Also thanks to the people who have helped me with this problem...i appreciate it heaps...

HI

considering your car now has 300,000kms i would use a thicker oil .
i had a similar problem with my ea spac and i used penrite hpr 40
it a 25w/60 oil its a thicker grade oil.
since i put the penrite in the oil pressure is much better now.
it still get a little low on a really hot day after a run on the freeway.
but it doesnt go into the red...

you may want to change your sender just to be sure.
but it couldnt hurt to try a different oil first..

I had a problem with my sender too. Just get a new one and replace it. they are cheap $10? Mine used to flash when hot. It was a real worry till i realised it was faulty. It has happened twice in 5 years.

yeah if ure engine starts rattling really bad i would just stop straight away, could be your oil pump on the way out to. might be a good idea to have a mech check it out, warning though oil pump replacement wont be cheap
