Hi all,
I thought only EA's and EB series 1 had a transmission control unit for the BTR, but when pulling out the NF dash that will be going in the EL, I discovered it as something called a BTR ETC (ecu transmission control I think). Does this mean I'll need to get the tranny loom to be able to use this NF loom with a BTR box? Why did ford go back to using an external transmission module? any thoughts anyone? rgds Frank |

As far as i know only the V8's retained the seperate transmission control module up to AU i think it was, but from EB MPFI onwards the transmission control was incorporated into the engine ECU.

what fordman351 said is right as far as i know,only the ea's and the early eb's and v8's had the seperate transmission controler.
i think some one has either done a dodgy or it could be something else ? throw up a pic of the unit.

So the dash is from an NF V8 ???

Yeah, NF V8...
does that mean I can't use the loom? If so, he has a couple of fairmont ghia's that I can get the loom needed from. I figured only the ECU to engine part of the loom would be different.. guess I was wrong. Is there anything stopping me from using the tranny control unit from the NF and bypassing the one on the ECU same as you do when you convert to manual? |

I'm hoping someone knows if the V8 loom is workable in the 6... (V8 except for the ECU to motor part I mean)
I can get a fairmont ghia loom, but would really rather have the fairlaine loom if possible... I don't care about the cluster as I'll be making my ED ghia/EL hybrid for that.. but everything else is the same right? |

The loom should work fine, i have a NF Lane ghia dash loom in my car, and the car i pulled the loom from had the same box thing in it. It was not attached to the dash loom, but some other little loom.
I dont think ford did go back to external trans control, are you sure its not electronic traction control?? Only fitted to Lanes and up??

It's definitely not traction control I think.
It has BTR ENG 4 Electronic Transmission Controller BTR Part No 0597-640064 Bosch Part No 9 260 060 059 Ford Part No 94DA-7E453-BA I have all the looms from the car so if it isn't part of the dash loom, then I should just be able to use the standard loom for that section? |

I see, well the NF i pulled my loom from had this box in it, but was not part of the dash loom. So 1 can only assume without looking that an NL would be the same.

This is good news.. I can go ahead an install most of the Fairlanes looms..
I'm expecting some fun in the boot with the different light layout, but thats relatively minor I think. |

The V8 versions didnt get trans control built into the ECU until AU1 so all V8 auto's have these boxes

Cool...
I'm wondering if that box could run my auto? If it could.. and I'm assuming thats the case, would it get confused by the speed and other signals coming from a 6 instead of an 8? Or does the rev/speed signal come from the ECU and is not cyl dependant? If possible, it would be cool to run the whole fairlane ghia wiring system. Then I could probably add traction control and other cool stuff more easily later. |

oh... thats unfortunate.. I got the impression from PIMP_LTD further up in this thread that the lanes had it as an option.
