Hey all, i was driving to work this morning, when my car suddenly started making a ticking noise...not a lifter ticking, but similar...sounds like its coming from the head, or somewhere around there...happens when idling, and driving, it gets louder when the rpm's start to rise...also when turning, ie into a car park, it gets louder, like its under stress...any ideas? i thought it might be the power steering pump, but the steering feels the same as it always has..

ef - yes.
just remove the snorkel (makes it easier) and the ancillary belt cover, get a 3/8 breaker bar, place it in the tensoiner, pull the belt off, and replace.

my guess is your pwr steer pump...when higher revs, the veins(if they are shot) will not cope hence the ticking noise. steerin will feel the same because its still pumping, but wont last much longer and your steering will get heavy when your pump stops pumping.

If you want a pump, pm , i got reco ones.

ok just changed belt...noise is still there, on closer inspection it is coming from the power steering pump, and its not so much a ticking sound, sounds more like a little electric motor..so looks like it'll be getting replaced.. anyone ever had any troubles replacing the pump? sounds pretty simple in the gregorys, any tips?...

changing the pump is simple as......all you gotta do is undo the pump from its bracket, the high pressure line and the return line. oh and the belt. then put the new one in following same steps, only instead of undoing, do the nuts up to bracket.

I got a full reco with 12 month warranty one here for $75 plus postage, unless you wanna go for a drive to Melb. Comes with pulley already installed, unlike some pwr steerin joints.

Call on 0422 855 862 anytime or pm me if your intrested.

Yeah, I personally build power steering pumps and pwr steer racks, and also air con comps.

Because I don't ask for changeover's, I buy bulk from wreckers and rebuild them. The cost I sell for depends on how much I buy them for, but I 9 times out of 10 dont charge more than $80.

Oh and If i get the changeover pump, its ALWAYS cheaper.

So yeah, let us know when ever you wish, im always here.
