ok my ef futura isnt starting... I havent had any troubles with it at all, until this arvo (had it for a year)

Only noticed it when i went to turn off the interior light (had been on for an hour) and then i went to start the car to see whether it was a flat battery... and it just ticked... lights come on and everything, headlights work fine as well. It doesnt seem to try to turn over past the first lil turn... then it just clicks away!

any ideas what it could be (keep in mind im a total newbie when it comes to mechanical stuff, so go easy on me ;)

help greatly appreciated

try switching on your headlights then starting the car, if they dim all the way down when you turn the key... time for a new battery or a jump start

Sounds definitely like a batt problem. When you turn the ket to crank, it will tick very rapidly, and all yer warning lites will prob also flash on/off rapidly too. Yer driving lights, stereo and the rest of it will prob work fine, just wont start. Had this many times before....charge it up overnite (or jumpstart it and drive round a while) and she'll be rite as rain

I'll bet the 10amp fuse for the interior lights/ignition is blown.
If your lights didnt go out for an hour your having the same problem as me.
Top left fuse in compartment.

You could take the airbag one out but you'll get a warning light on for it when you replace it.

You can get a pack of 5 fuses for about $1.10.

Check the fuse now to see if it is that or something else. Just pull it out and check the bridge between the terminals against a light. If its not that then it could be worse.

Ive had the VERY same thing happen on my NF fairlane; lights werw working n everything but wouldnt start, just kept clicking fast n flashing on the dash.
Turned out i had a dead battery - dropped a cell actually and had to get a new one, at least it was under warranty lol.

My money is its your battery.

IIRC if it's the inerior light fuse that blown and smarlock isnt letting you start it, you wont even get the clicking

the clicking is the starter solenoid engaging and disengaging cos there isnt enough power to turn the engine over

the starter solenoid energises, throws the bedix drive in and completes the circuit to the sstarter motor, starter motor tries to turn the engine over, but because there isnt enough current available to turn the motor over, the momentary voltage drop de-energises the starter solenoid, the bendix retracts, the circuit is broken, and the voltage rises quickly to a high enough level to re-energise the starter solenoid, and the cycle goes again..... that's what the clicking is

long story short, put your battery on charge overnight, and you'll be right
in the morning

considering your interior light had nly been on for an hour, you might want to look at replacing your battery before too long..... how old is it?

My point exactly, mine didnt charge overnight due to dead cell (battery s**t itself basically) but if its still fine yours should be working fine by brekie time tomorrow.

yeh, what blackjack said, this is what happened to my car ages ago (battery would go slowly flat while driving ( a race to get home before it stopped cos i was scared it wouldnt start again if i stopped to see what was wrong) a clean of the terminals and it was OK - for 2 weeks, then another clean and this yellow gunky stuff that stops the terminals corroding - that was 6 months ago now

well we tried to jump start it this morning, and it didnt work. though our cables may be faulty...

the dash lights dont flash or anything when its ticking, just sorta go dim... power windows still move quickly etc.

Just for a laugh, check the water levels in your battery and give the cells a top-up if necessary. They sometimes startup straight away.
