gday,

i have myself a spare motor in bits and grabbed the entire BBM assembly and dismantled it all this arvo, for a good cleanout and polishing, injectors cleaned etc.

When i pulled top from bottom half apart the lower half of the manifold was full of oil, well not full but around 700ml of oil in there. Is this a normal thing???? Would it possibly be backflowing from the head into the manifold?

And is this what catch cans prevent??

Cheers, Luke.

surely not 700 mL of oil from a filter!

its most likely blowby... something severe. my old peugeot did this, kept drowning the carbies and kept bleeding onto my exhaust :S

Every BBM ive pulled apart has oil in it. Maybe not 700ml, but a bit.

I'm sure it gets sucked into the manifold from the PCV valve, as that is a vaccum thing and the oil tends to sit right below the PCV hose inlet.

most manifolds tend to build up a film, or even a very slight pool, but nothing sizeable. anything over 50-100 mL is massive. even 50 ml is a large amount

there was pools of it on the table when i tipped it up.

The car it came from was rolled, maybe this has something to do with it? Either way doesnt matter, i was just curious.
