see mine has about 230,000. i did you 15w60 penrite. too thick

our old au has 230'000 kms on it and we ran the same hpr10 aswell,
the mrs current au has 190'000kms and its also running hpr10.. i think 15w 60 is ok... imo why go higher viscosity unless necessary, i think if it dont suffer from oil pressure issues no need to go thicker, as yours is eb i think 15w 60 or 20w50 would be fine... as seen with other replies some engines seem to respond different with different types of oil.... |

but eb's are standard 15w40 oil. 10w50 would be thinner than standard

yeh but cold the pressure is fine. it's when at hot idle it's s**t. when cruising when hot it's fine. like if i drive from bendigo to melbourne the pressure is at around 2 bar. but go back to idle it's about 1 bar

Ok, I got sick of seeing a low oil pressure reading in the old EB so I got some of that you-bute Shell High Mileage stuff, as the car has done 360 odd thousand clicks. I'll add that it barely uses oil during its regular 5000k service period, and does not blow any smoke at all, blue, black or white. So, oil change, every thing seems fine. Lash adjusters are a bit rattley for a bit but once its warm it goes like a trooper. That was a week ago, now, start the car and there is a PLUME of oil smoke out the exhaust like every single valve stem seal has decided to vaporise and not hold back any oil. Not Happy Jan. For those considering changing to this thickened rubbish, think twice. Unless that motor of yours is a real rattler, stick to the recommended viscosity. End of rant.

More to the point, why don't you just fix the problem with your engine instead of band aiding it. Go spend $50 on some bearings, pull the sump off and change them, oil pressure problem solved |

well yeah just throw em in, It can be done with the engine still in the car. all you need to do is take the sump off. it's been done many times before.
You have access to hoists an engine stay and torque wrench. If the crank looks sus when you take the caps off just put them back on and start saving for the rest of the rebuild parts. (nothing gained nothing lost) Being a mechanic you should be able to have it out, built and back in in under a week and might cost you a few hundred including the ball hone. Pull it out and strip on thursday night, crank grind/linish on friday build it on saturday put it back in on sunday. |

um you either have to drop the k frame or pull the motor out to get the sump off

although removing the k frame is not as huge job as it sounds,
the k frame,sump and bearing can be done in a day... |
