Got the new plugs in today, well looking at them i can only say one thing they were definately the wrong type for the car (too much gap me thinks) now i HAD Denso Iridiums (which were bought from Ford). Yes they were XR6T plugs but with an E-Series thread. Heres pics of what they looked like after takening them out. The first pic was the worst looking one, all of them had alot of carbon around them thou.

Nah no pinging asfaik (although now u mention it i have no idea what pinging sounds like), i have noisy lifters and injectors, but thats about it.. And yes it is running lean as one of my injectors is actually making a strange noise (i did the stethascope test) and it seems to flutter insted of having the normal noise like the others do..

Im asuming this could be the cause. But yeah the Gap on those old irdiums was way too high. The new plugs i have now seem to have much a better gap setting. I bought a set of Bosch Fusions.

it may look like they have a large gap due to the fact that most of the electrode has been melted man lol
they could also be the wrong heat range.
will be interesting to see what happens to your new plugs...

Do you reckon i should take em out after say 500-1000kms? Just to see how they are going or should i wait longer. I took the car for a drive and it has a definate difference lol as you would expect! The car no longer has flat spots or any power surging/labouring.. Nice and smooth acceleration, well atleast atm it has. Cant say the same about the oil pressure even after the new oil and filter still doesnt seem much better.. but ive been underneath the car alot now and i have checked everywhere but no oil leaks/seeping.

the oil pressure problem is f**k, i have the same issue mate. and i like i said i inspected the oil pump when i had the engine out of the car
i have absolutly no oil leaks so i have no idea where mines going either...

but yeah, pull the plugs out after 1000k or so and just check em out.
use a site like this to check them
http://www.dansmc.com/spark_plugs/spark ... talog.html

i replaced my plugs, leads, dizzy cap n s**t the otherday and also fixed up a vacuum leak and its so smooth now. its amazing the difference it makes when the car is running as it should lol

your previous plugs dont look too bad, but they are def too white and have been getting too hot.
so that could be either too lean, wrong heat range plug or too much timing.

Yeah, timing wouldnt be the issue i dont reckon, id say its possibly the faulty injector (too much air not enough fuel) i run high octane booster/cleaner/injector clean thru every month but that doesnt seem to fix it.. That also could of been the cause of my plugs getting too hot.. Too much octane booster...

Thanks heaps for the replies misk_one, cheers for ya help.

my oil pressure is doing same not quite as low drops to top of bottom bar often when stopped
and ticking loud and bad from the rocker gear and injectors have repaired all hlas with a kit i got posted from jmm and tested each one.
stopped ticking for the first drive then started again .
i then changed the oil which stopped it for about 5 mins.
i then added a whole bottle of lucas direct to the rocker gear
and stopped it ticking for about 10 mins.
mechanic says its a lifter but i think he must mean rocker arm.
today it wasnt ticking and i noticed the oil pressure was on the top of the middle section.
i drove spiritidly home and in the high revs it went chhchhchhcchh my impression of an engine rattle and started to tick again
i pulled each spark lead and it still ticked
i will change the rocker gear to one i know is fresh and let yer know .
but knowing the money i just spent on the head it will be the oil pump or bearings touch wood
both new efs i had needed oil pumps at around
200,000km suprise my ef just hit 200,000km

thanx im going to check my new plugs and i wil try another set of injectors.
every time i book my car to get timing checkd they give it back no charge and tell me they time them selves 3 different places ive taken it.
i will take the manual in next time and show them if i cant remedy the issues grrr

Dont take too much notice of the oil pressure guage, the EF, EL series have a weak earth that can sometimes make the pressure read wrong. Also if the oil you run is too thin this will make the problem worse, also check the oil level to make sure it is infact full. If it runs fine and doesnt lose pressure when hammered chances are everything is ok.

As Ghia said these switches are prone to not give a good reading like when i done a long trip bout 6 months ago my oil pressure went thru the roof then would drop back to normal and it hunted until i removed it next service. Also any slight oil level drop will cause the lifters to get very noisy i know as mine went off their face one morn when i fired her up no warning and i thought i s**t a lifter. Had a yak to the tech at wade cams and he said that if these engines are only the slightest bit low they will let you know and my oil was only down a fleas d**k, topped it up and 10 mins later the lifter went quiet. If in doubt put a tester in the pressure switch hole and check it to the ford manual spec.
