OK. Here is the 411.The 4499s have been around for a while now and are a good set of headers but an old design. The 4480s where designed on an EB that raced in the EB/VP saloon series. These headers are tuned length and longer pipes. When u fit these u will notice a little drop in torque down low but gain a bit up high.So basically for high RPM stuff. These headers really come into there own when u add more air and fuel.So if u plan on more mods cams ECT get the 4480s.

My 2 cents.

The 4480's are soon to be superseded. I'd wait to buy pipes.

Contrary to popular believe, the Competitions definately improve low and mid range performance exceptionally well! That was my reason for purchasing them, every exhaust shop and Pacemaker themselves when I talked to them told me this!

a week ago, i was at an exhaust place that work uses and i was speaking to the manager of the joint and if a customer comes in asking for extractors or full exhaust system, the headers/extractors he puts on are pacemaker comps (not the cheaps ones but not the one that needs chip mods and stuff but the medium range ones) if customer does ask for the standard ones he puts on but for that little bit extra cash its totally worth the comps put on

Pacemaker only make two variaties for the 3.9 and 4.0L SOCH I6. And generally on an NA can I don't see you needing a chip or anything to get it to run if you have only modded the exhaust!!!

Any headers actually make the note quieter so get the resinator out!

I foudn that different headers change the way it sounds and change when it's loud and what not depending on the rev. But no headers will really dramatically change the over all volume of the system, it is the mufflers and cat converter that mainly effect the noise. Also bends in the pipes can. Some say different types or steel effect the noise.

when i spoke to pacemaker they said 4480 will give a more throaty sound
and 4480 newer better design a lot more work in making hence price dif
4499 low mid range
4480 mid high range but loses very little down low to 4499
4480 best for additional mods

They both make decent sounds with the right mufflers.
On my old AU Ghia I made a 2.2rwk gain by fitting a hotdog muffler on the rear combined with PH4499 & redback centre muffler over the muffler that was fitted in the rear plus the noise was deeper & louder with the hotdog.
