 Post subject: painting Rocker Cover.

ok, we have an ef fairmont, and i would like to paint the rocker cover red, to make it look good, just wondering how i'd go about doin it...and how much of the engine i have to pull apart..and how long the car would be out of action...

Undo the bolt and its off. Just make sure you look after the rubber gasket as a new one is about $30 I think.

like bug said u have to remove the rocker cover

me i woudl buy a 2nd handy rocker cover and paint that then you can take time etc so when it is doen you just swap it over and have minum time with the car off the rd ie about 1/2 hr

ohh to paint it !

make sure it is reall clean ie use grease and wax remover

then sand it back to metal and then use a metal primer ( a high temp one is advised )
after priming paint with high temp paint
and add several coats of clean will look sick!

no idea cant be more that say $40?? ring a few wreckers and see
although they may want to keep em with the engine

i find haveing a spare to paint/modify allows more time for you to get it right
ie no rushing to have car back on road, then if it f**k up you have the original to put back! :)

Yeah it's not something you want to rush, You want to do it over a couple of days to get a good finish and let it dry properly.

yer i rused mine a little came up ok but theres a few scratches on it where the paint wasnt 100% hard when i put it back on.
Yes look after the gasked caus i nearly fell over backwards when i bought a new one $55 a deep 13mm (i think) socket will be needed also if u dont have one

buy in bulk save some cash, paint them all and sellem on ebay, when i was after a xr6 tappet cover i was looking on ebay and saw a ed tappet cover resprayed red, the bidding which started at $30 was soon up to $90 with a s**t load of bids and it still had a few days to go. and i dont think youed find an el tappet cover for $40 i had a hard tome finding a eb one fot that price. but i got my xr one for $70 bargan i say.

i've got one in my garage rene - its off an EF - maybe if you find out if it can be used on yours, and you can grab it off me?
