howdy, just wondered when putting secondhand or reconditioned engines and other parts in do you have to specify the milege of the parts if its more or less than what the cars done. if so what do you do and what do you if you put the parts in and you dont know the milege of the parts. i look foward to your reply

You can do what you like as far as engine swaps, but the newest component is what determines what adr rules it comes under. For example, if i put a boss 290 into an XY, then id have to comply with emission regulations for the boss motor, not the regulations that a standard xy would have to deal with. However, when putting in an older engine, the engine has to comply with the regulations of the car as the car is newer. However, there used to be some loop holes that should still exist.

If i put a 304 V8 from a VU SS into a 1972 monaro, it would require cats, purge canisters, PCV systems, etc. But, if i use the original block, and bolt up the heads, intake, ecu and everything, then i dont think emission regulations apply because the motor (block) is pre emissions

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

If you were doing work professionally reconditioning parts for someone, i imagine you may have to announce the parts date if its later than the car rest of the car.
As for parts on your own car, you can add whatever you like and not be required to announce it at the time of sale.
Heard stories of people who purposely put in a newer dash into a car theyre about to sell, so that the odometer reads less than what it is.
