All four of my rims are starting to peel. Anyone know where a cheap but good place is in melbourne to fix them? Im guessing they have to be sandblasted, re polished and then lathered and laquored? The place I emailed wanted $300 a rim. for that much id rather buy BA MKII F6 rims off ebay for half the price.

Hey mate, are they the 18" mullins 5 spoke? It's a very common thing for them to peel and the price quoted is pretty standard.. I've had a few sets and ended up getting a set off a 04 XR6 turbo as they are from a different manufacture (anything after MKII is meant to be the update rim). Wheel king sell new genuine rims $895 per rim for the updated ones or if you want the mullins rims its an extra $175 per rim, not sure why... Yours being MKII should be the updated ones, so not sure why they would peel. But to have them fixed properly isn't cheap.. But replacement cost is insane!!

Whatever you do dont let anyone polish them. Under the clear they have a machined face and once polished you cant clear coat them (or like you said they need to machined again which is the expensive part) then you have to leave a bare alloy polished finish and you be forever polishing them. Been there done that and its s**t.

If you want a cheap fix have them stripped and painted, but you'll be looking at about $180 per rim to have them done professionally.

Cheers Paul.

http://www.advancedalloys.com.au/home/ will fix them but costs about $300 per rim.
