tried posting in ecu section but got no replys so i thought i may as well try here.

I recently bought a chiptorque HP4 chip of a mate, and im wondering if i can put it in my car now, its for an EF 4 litre auto, but his car had a wade cam, extractors, exhaust and bigger injectors.

I've got the extractors and exhaust, but not the cam (yet). Is it good for the car to put it in now or wait till i get my cam, and on the subject of that, would i need it reprogrammed to suit a high lift cam such as JMM, or are the cam settings universal to a chip like that (would his injectors being bigger make any difference). Lots of questions i know but i have no idea on these things

Regards, Luke.

im not running bigger injectors, my mate was, i have no idea what size but apparantly they were upsized to suit the wade cam. I was just wondering what it would do to my car if i put it in now with extractors and exhaust. (im gettin the exhaust changed next week hopefully, lukey ultra flo straight through muffler is gettin added).

Spilt Out Raw Fuel With Little Engine Gain. Plus Bigger Injectors Unless Got Head Work And Serious Stuff Over 160rwkw's No Need For Bigger Injectors. A Good Mod Is Magna Injectors Same Pound As Standard Ford But Better Spray Pattern.

sounds like a good idea to wait until i have the new cam in b4 i put the chip in.

Also, would the chip need reprogramming to suit a jim mock cam, its programmed for a wade cam at the moment, i thought the cam settings might be universal?

Each chip is set up to a specific hex code for the ECU. If you put it into your car it may not work or even cause problems.
I have one in my car that was set up specifically for the ECU (including the ECU Hex code), modifications and specific changes I have done to my car. These chips are not a simple swap and go type of deal, they are custom programmed to suit a specific car.

Also, for the record, the ecu board actually has to be cleaned of any compound etc before a good connection between the chip and the board can be achieved.
I'm afraid that, unless you send it back to Chiptorque with your hex codes and mosds, it is next to useless for you.

You will need to take it to Herrods or another place with a reader (forget Ford unless your mates with someone there as they will refuse to do it). You then need to send that and the chip back to Chiptorque with a list of your mods (and preferably a dyno sheet with youe A/F ratio mapped on it). They will then reprogram it (I think its $120) and send it back to you. I also recommend getting it fitted properly at Herrods (maybe $50) so its done right.

Its worth it, they make a heap of difference.

just curious actually, i was on the chiptorque site just then, and they COD chips australia wide, if thats so, how can they send a chip out to someone for an EF, wouldnt they need to read the ECU then program the chip?

no, they dont need the actual ECU, just the hex code from the ECU. If you contacted them to get one they would ask you to go to a dealer of theirs to get the hex code read. In Melbournes case, probably Herrods.

As far as I know, they do. I may be wrong.
Either way, it would be something check befor putting a chip in that is not set for your car.

Also, even if it was the same the risk of putting it on is pretty high. At best it could be set up to overfuel your car (different cams) and therefore killing economy and performance.
At worst it will lean your car out and you get detonation. That would be bad.
