Hey guys, I have a mate with an EF and may have a problem with his aircon/heater. to quote him directly:

"when i turn the dial to anywhere from the full cold position the aircon compressor kicks in. it doesn't happen on the full cold position unless i put the air con on, but there is no reason for the compressor to kick in unless there car has reverse cycle air con, which i highly doubt.

This is really starting to s**t me. i am sure that the heat works by opening a valve to allow the coolant to run through the heater. but why the hell does the air con compressor kick in."

Basically i didn't have any idea, and im hoping someone else does? Any help would be appreciated.
