ive heard somewheer on this site that people have used a standard ecu and loom and just added extra wires when running a ef/el dizzy motor. but i think the cars that took them in originally had smartlock, not sure.

if he wants to run the ef setup its easier to replace the looms and ecu so all the wireing will be there,,its a fiddly job bit as i said if done properly it should be a good converson.

i have done it to my ea except i put a au engine into my ea but to keep the conversion simple i used the distributor and ecu from a el and extended some wires and added some extra wires for the knock sensor and bbm switch..

but mine didnt have smartlock so i used a smartlock overide module..
otherwise i would have had to fitt smartlock...

unfortunatly there is no real cheap way around smartlock..

hi

u can use a dizzy from ea, eb or ed.. as long as its from a mpfi car.

u can use the eb ecu but u should use the eb manifold aswell..
because if u use the el manifold the eb ecu wont operate the bbm switch and the timing maps are differenet & u will have pinging probs.

im getting a rebuild dissi of moody, so im wanting to run it using a el ecu, do i just need to wire in the bbm switch and knock sensor then?

and someone was writing a doco on how to bypass the smartlock, whens that oing to be up?

if you use the el ecu you have to add 2 wires for the bbm switch.
if you have the el thermo fans you can also hook them up so that the ecu controls them as well..
and if its pre smartlock you need to add a wire for smartlock signal..

i added 2 wires for the knock sensor ...it will still run without the knock sensor but you can advance the ignition timing a bit more with the knock sensor conected..

also the el ecu will plug straight into the ea loom..

here is a link to my conversion..
