I was just looking at the redbook.com.au statistics on ED Xr6's.

It would seem that the late 1993 ED Xr6's Had 161kw... and the early 1994 Xr6's had 160kw...

Why would they change the motor's to have -1kw - i know its not much, but it seems stupid... anyone know why?

Yeah.
Apparently the 160kw models weren't much chop.
Kept getting flogged by tarted up Gemini's and Hynudais.
So they brought the newer model out with a heavily revised, heavily worked 4.0 litre which gave an additional killowatt.

This killowatt made all the difference and saw the XR6 turn from a slow, gutless heap of s**t into a V8 eating monster capable of chopping the same tarted up Gemini's and Hyundais that troubled the earlier model.
