Hi guys, got an ED motor being stripped down. Issue is I cannot get the balancer bolt off, I do not have access to a decent source of heat, so thats out, I have a harmonic balance puller.

Having a stupid monent, probably something to do with being sick and running a 39 degree temp. can some one pls step me through the removal process, I have 22mm impact socket and all to bits ie ratchet and breaker bar, please do not tell the bolt is reverse thread.

As I said sick as a dog and trying to do this sucks.

Dave

The bolt will not be reverse thread. It is genuinly just a s**t thing to have to do. You say stripping a motor, so i assume its out of a car?

"crack" the nut first. 2 ways. beat the put out of it with a hammer. of tighten the bolt (or put as might weight on it as u can) just top crack it. will release pressure off the bolt and should be about to undo it. another method breaker bar. some form of extension ie (tubed steel ) jump on the f**k took two blokes to undo mine :S

I bought one of those super cheap rattle guns before i bought my good one, and it wouldn't remove the balancer bolt out of our old laser, it was rubbish.

If a gun doesn't get it off, remove the sump and place a clean peice of timber or similar in between the big end and the block, and brute force FTW.

Kingchrome Ratchet a footpower!! got the bastard off. the I6 is SOO much easier to work on when its on a pallet!

Not gonna buy a 12v rattle gun just to do a few bolts.. the idea is to get dirty and crack a sweet, not fall back on tools to make it easier.

If only the engine was still in the car as you could use a breaker bar and lock the handle in on the right side then crank the engine to undo it.

Beware of this!!!!

I have done it too a few engines, but the last 2 i did this on just f**k the starters instead! And left the bolt tight.

Somebody must have left my harmonic balance bolt loose. I just jerked it up with the breaking bar, twice and it loosened, I might mention that I'm 140kg. Probly helped.
