Im currently rebuilding an au and wondering which parts i should replace.

at the moment i have got a full rebuild kit minus the pistons, and have been told i should get a timing kit.

am i required to replace:-

1. harmonic balancer?
2. oil pump?

a genuine oil pump costs over 300 so i really only want to replace things that NEED to be done as this rebuild has gone WAY WAY over budget.

thanks

p.s i know i will need a new set of headbolts also

define full rebuild kit?

If you replacing bearings, I certainly would be replacing pistons.

timing chains should last 500tho! but for around $100 I'd do it, even the oil pump.

when I pulled my motor out last year, I wish i did replace the pump.

full rebuild kit included every gasket, rings and bearings.

The motor only had 100k's on it, but like u said i might change the timing chain.

should i fork out an extra 300 for an oil pump?

man i never knew rebuilding a motor could be so expensive

personally i'd do the oil pump as it would be a pain to get to later. better than genuine in my opinion are the jp units.

i assume you'll do the welsh plugs too.

water pump and harmonic balancer can be done later without removing the engine if your budget is to tight.
