there must be a cam timing issue for that to happen..
the piston hitting the valve is what broke the rocker arm..

looks very likely to be a timing issue. I would guess 1 tooth out on the timing cain. You are lucky you only broke one!

the timing is right, it was one tooth out on vernier gear before but was corrected when I did serpentine belt conversion. on some discussions with my local engine shop I found out what the cause would have been, home made shims :oops:(idiot) that I used at one stage to try to overcome noisy lifters (not used when rocker arm broke).
