Sorry for asking a question that has been asked many times before but from all the topics i've looked at i'm still not sure on the answer.
My EF is running on 5 cylinders and the 6th isn't firing. We tested the plug against the block and there was no spark and it's not the lead because we tried the same lead on a different cylinder and it worked. Oh and it was the same plug too.
Some of the topics I looked at mentioned the coil pack but someone said that if it's the coil pack two of the cylinders won't fire but only one isn't firing in mine. So before we spend $80 on a new coil pack is this what we should be replacing?

my guess is the cap and rotor should be the 1st attacked... ive had to do that on my car with leads too that solved my problems... any better ideas anyone?

Cap and rotor are parts of a distributor arn't they? The EF doesn't have a distributor.

Yeah no worries. I have another question. If I went to the wreckers to get a coil pack could I test it with a multimeter? How would I do that?

sounds like your coil pack is starting to fail, ie has enough to only produce ½ the required spark..

Had this happen on my first EF, that was my learning curve experience for coil packs and s**t locations. After that, I knew about coil packs, but still dreaded the horrid location. as far as testing on.. without firing up to test I think you would have bucklys testing with a multi..

Just an update. I got a coil pack from the local wreckers today for $45. We put it in and now it's running much smoother. Thanks for your help.
