Ok. So it's been about 6-8 months since I converted the Lowlane to an EL engine.

Being EA equivalent, I converted the BBM loom from mine, got an EL XR6 Manual ECU, wired in the BBM solenoid and the Smart Lock Bypass.

It ran sweet, revved out well, did little skids and was a great jump over the 3.9 with a Log manifold!!

But then it started to have some starting issues.

Out of nowhere it would randomly die at start up. Sometimes it would fire straight up, but if it didn't that first time it would act similar to a carby car that didn't get the usual pump it needs before hitting the key, it would fire then die instantly. Then if it did die, on the second start try, if I touched the accelerator a little it would finally start, but always with a lot of turning over.

So that leaned me towards maybe the ISC solenoid not working (no idle air being let in) so I replaced that... And found the gasket had one hole not open (homemade one)

So as I replaced the solenoid I used a normal gasket.. Then things went weird.. The car now starts perfecty, and idles, but the second i touch the go pedal the revs jump to 2000-2500 and it sits there idling high, letting it sit, it will slowly come down to around 1500 (you can hear the stepping down it makes as it runs)

As soon as you unplug the ISC (while it's high revving) the idle drops back to normal. Then reconnecting the ISC it will continue to idle normally, until the accelerator it touched (even breathed on) and the revs jump straight back up to 2000-2500 again.

It's also started draining batteries just sitting there overnight.

I am thinking it's a sensor of some sort not being happy, or maybe the ECU itself?

Anyone had similar issues?

Ask me for any extra info, it's so hard to get it to make sense when typing it all out.

This is my last hope that someone here may have a new angle. I'm stumped..

Dose anyone want to run me through the steps so I can run a diagnostic on the ECU, or a foot tech doc?

Thanks fellas.

Forgot to mention it ran the same after I swapped the ISC, but it may be that both I had were stuffed..

A diagnostic scan should show that up in the fault codes too, yes?

Gonna do one this arvo when my mate brings a battery over..

I'm really leaning towards electrical/sensor for this one..

i tried numerous 2nd hand isc's they all did the same thing. as soon as i put a brand new one on the problem was fixed. however the isc control circuit in the ecu has been known to burn out

An alternative until you find the problem is to experiment with making your own ISC gasket. I swapped my log for a BBM and had a similar issue. I forget which way the ISC worked but I ended up with one hole being full size and one being about 4mm or so.

It doesn't really fix your problem but will make the car better to drive until you find the root cause.

Aah, thanks for that...

I just searched Ford ISC.. Found a matching one for an exploder with a 4.0, wasn't too sure if the plug would fit tho..

Either way $110 is a lot nicer!

Big big PITA, I just need my car back!
