I had a similar problem. It was trans fluid leaking out of the extension housing, spraying onto the hot exhaust & cat, smoking up and rising upwards behind the engine. New extension housing bush & seal and a good clean with a pressure sprayer solved the problem - I did the seal alone the first time which wasn't enough.

you could be right, i have had the transmission rebuilt around 1 & 1/2 years ago.

I am hoping that its not that.

I will look into it when i get it on a hoist.
