hey

i had my 977b cam wrapped in a rag and it was oiled, but my shead leaked and it has a bit of surface rust on it, so i got some smooth emery paper p120 and used oil to take of the rust, but its left black marks, theres no pitting on the cam but im asking will it be ok to use?

here are some pics

cheers

thats all thru the motor.. chuck it back together and drive it till it goes bang, then get a low K second hand motor from the wrecker.
Honestly theres so many around its not worth rebuilding them unless you're going to go nuts and have an all outer.

sorry next time i'll read the post properly.. it was out of the motor.
well i wouldnt use it.. mainly cause rubbing it with emery paper imbeds the surface with abrasive substance.. the proper method is to use linishing fabric.

there is not much you can do about the rust, what you have done is about all you can do,

while its not the best it should still be ok, worse case is the cam journal that sits under that may get some scoring...

I'll get something finer and touch it up a bit, it's still very smooth tho

If you get one of those green pot scouring pads from Woolies or Coles, you should be able to polish out most of the surface rust with a bit of oil,but you will,as previously posted, have some dark rust stain marks left behind. This may help remove any of the grit from your #120 grade paper. Then just wash it thoroughly, oil it up,and bung it in.

Cheers,
Kev.
