Just put new timing chain, front cover and head on my EF and realised i did'nt set the mark on th eidler gear for the chain....DOH!....But now i'm realisng it does'nt actually matter as the Crank Pos Sensor will take care of it anyways......Please confirm asap! I don't wanna take the front cover off again.....Arrrrgh! :x

yeah the idler is not balanced to crank so it doesnt matter

Yeah not for balancing but ignition timing.....But damn i'm happy now......Don't know why they bother with marking the gear? Back to it i spose !Thanks...

they mark the gear because it's cheaper then makeing two gears.
the cam gear and the idler gear are the same.

and so long as the sync sensor goes in and line up, you right the mark doesn't mater. but if you find you cant get the sync sensor to line you'll have to move the gear
