Rev a little eh? Like as in 5000rpm+. Maybe your brakets aren't all that square. My XF used to throw power steering belts at anything over 4000rpm. That's one of the reasons why I got rid of it.

the usual cause of throwing belts at high RPM is that the idler pulley brackets are bent

all my early eseries cars have done it, a idler bracket replacement and we are right as rain

Reminds me of the time I reversed my XC out of my driveway and snapped the gear shift off! Leaving me with only reverse.

meh, your battery light was on becuase the alternator was not charging your battery. (ie car was running soley off battery, no alternator assistance)

BATTERY LIGHT ON DOES NOT MEAN FLAT BATTERY

going by that, i'd say the belt was shagged which gives a good explanation why the belt snapped

LOL

yeh lol thats so funny, people bring their car into my work, and say 'i think my battery is stuffed, the light comes on'.
i just shake my head.

froudey, what model is it off? ef/el have only 1 belt for all the accessories.
anything up to ed, and the alternator is 1 belt, the a/c is another.
i find it weird that both let go (assuming it's ea/eb/ed), unless one got trapped under the other while moving and therefore snapped it.

while the belt is off, spin the alternator and see how the bearings feel.
