Hey all

I FINALLY got the engine I was after for my ED, an AU XR6 HP engine and I want to know what they were like in the AU's? Where they quick?
I've read that the VCT put out more power but the extra weight of the IRS ment that it was on par with the HP and live axle, I also read somewhere that the HP was hobbled from the factory to make the VCT engine look more powerful!

I'm hoping she wil go alright in my ED, it'll have a 5 speed and Xtreme HD clutch and 3.45 LSD behind it with all the usual intake/exuast mods, and one of joe's stage 3 cams
I'm still deciding weather to go with the log manifold with XH tensioner (IF I CAN FIND ONE!) or the EL intake? Both with the AU injectors and J3

Cheers!

I used to have an AU XR6 with the HP Engine, few mods & she was pretty quick. Should be a hell of alot easier to put in your ED then the VCT.

Hey I got some questions for yas!

The sensor on the back of the head, I imagine that is the temp sensor? I need a new one, they smashed it when they took the motor out!
With the air con compressor, can I just use an EL unit?

Yeah there was big issues with Cams in the VCT's back 5 years ago, not sure what the current situation is.

with that sensor you can use it if you want..but you will need to do some re wiring
but its easier to use the ed lower thermostat housing keeping the ed sensors..
and yes the el aircon pump will fit on the au engine. if you go bbm you just need to cut the ac pump mounting spacers down by about 6mm..

if you go log you use the ed aircon pump bracket and need to add some washers between the top bolts and the ac bracket..

Ok that makes it easy :)

How would I go using the single belt setup with the log manifold? with the XH tensioner i gather?

that pretty easy..
you use a ef,el or au power steer pump, au alternator, ef-au water pump, au harmonic balancer, the xh belt tensioner and use an ef or el air con pump mounted to the ed ac bracket and thats about it..
i assume you might already have thermo fans?? as the std clutch fan wont bolt onto the waterpump

as for the vct cam situation, there are cams available for them but there are very few tuners that have had much success in tuning them, the gain is usually pretty small over just using a std cam.

and also due to small demand for the vct cams they are more expensive. The option most take is to just disable the vct and put in a std cam
