I'm not entirely sure where to start with the fuel system so I figured I'd just pull off a random hose that seems to go to the injectors.

thats your fuel pressure regulator & thats the vacuum line the hose is connected underneath with a swagged fitting thats the tank return hose the one next to it connected to the fuel rail is the one from the pump (hold nut on pipe & on hose or you will split the pipe undoing it

Aww. I thought that was something important. Haha. I'll get in there in the morning and replace the fuel filter at least. I'm actually in Toowoomba, just been too slack to change my location.

Whats the best way to get to the fuel filter? From the top of the car or put it on stands?

I was thinking it was somewhere around the injectors. Fuel reg is located up on the fuel rail. I think that is what you thought was the Fuel Filter. Mate, buy a workshop manual and read it, it will save you alot of time. |

Well, I think I'm slowly getting somewhere... I replaced the fuel filter today (I was expecting a plastic filter and not a fuel metal item); had the missus turn her over whilst underneath and I'm happy to say my pump pumps. Now to the next step; checking for fuel at the engine or changing the coil.

So I've swapped over the coil this morning with that of a brand new one and alas, still no response. I'm thinking of moving on to the distributor next weekend, but I'm not 100% if thats the right spot to move to next.

The picture you showed of the fuel regulator suggests you took the vacuum line off? If you got fuel out of that your fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is gone. That will make the car way too rich and it will never start. It also seems to match up with the fact the car was running rich and spluttering before you stopped it.
Take the vacuum hose off and block it. Leave the car for an extended period to let the fuel in the manifold evaporate and then crank the car with the throttle fully open (this will make the TPS send a signal to stop the injectors firing to clear the rich mixture) for at least 30 seconds. Stop cranking and return throttle to idle. Crank again with throttle closed and hopefully injectors firing. If that doesn't work, put a test light on an injector plug to earth and check for a weak pulse to the light showing the EEC is firing them.

before you do anything else change your fuel filter , i have just spent a fortune on sensors and parts inc a new fuel pump and nothing fixed it so while waiting for a mech to have another go i decided to change fuel filter (which is under body beside rear passenger wheel on fuel line ) and wala! it seems to be running great only now i have a severe pwr steering leak so have to fix that before i can again enjoy my ride
