ive got this same ticking sound...used the screw driver stethascope and its coming from the fuel injectors and the tick sounds like an individual injector, what fixes this problem and what makes the sound?

All injectors tick ... it's when they open/close to let fuel into the engine ... if they don't tick ... you have issues.

he said right because commonwhores have them on the right and he has only ever taken a glance at the under bonnet of an ls1 in a magazine and they pointed out performance headers :P (my 2 cents) as far as ur noise goes could be valves but thats top, water pump is also close to top, so yea unlucky, good luck finding it tho

injectors definatly! tappets no lifters on an el are hydrolic no need for ajustment. but i also herd that there is a bolt on the bellhousing that causes a serious tick noise common thing though

Check the tensior over, they create more of a crunchy sound but on some occasions ive heard all sorts of sounds out of them. While your at it check the position of the belt could give you an indication of whether its ok if its not creating a sound.

The injectors on most tick, even after there cleaned, if your going to run a cleaner through the tank change the fuel filter in a period of time which you think its run through the injectors enough or after yourve used a tank of fuel, follow the instructions on the bottle, dont overuse the stuff.

Ive heard a coil pack create a loud ticking noise before, but only on one occasion, so i say that isnt the case.

Check the rubber like lining on the crankshaft pully, make sure its not coming out as it can unbalance and could cause any type of noise, same as the seal leaking behind.

You could clean the throttle body out also and see if the revs drop a little to help calm the revs at idle, sometimes depoists stick inside and could cause the butterfly to jam just off the idle.

Your basics also oil levels, coolant levels, signs of leaks, head gasket weap, tesnsions on nuts and bolts, even try cleaning the air filter as it becomes blocked the engine has to work harder to supply air to burn the fuel from the injectors so it could be restricting the flow, if the airfilters blocked go get a new one do a oil and oil and fuel filter change and take the battery off overnight and reset the ECU so it can obtain new settings, runs like a dog for a while but itll teach itself. Check over the auto oil while your at it, keep up to the changes also otherwise ull end up with a slipping torque converter.

You should notice if its the clutch on the aircon slipping they make a very distinct sound if yourve heard one before, a high pitch squeal that most ppl turn around to look at down the street when the aircon starts to kick in, which sometimes isnt the clutch but the aircon compressor s**t itself cause its run out of gas and metal shaving are flying everywhere cause there no oil to keep it happy.

And lastly on some rare occasions the exhaust backs up, the baffles in the muffler or something stupid starts to block the fumes and really restricts the head and componerty, stupid if you dont notice a whisling sound from the back and irract gear changes with a stall between lights.
