i have an ED XR6 and when the car idels it makes this really loud annoying ticking sound that gets me bad looks i hate it, i had a look under the bonnet when running and it sounds like it is coming from under the intake manifold?

Can any one tell me what the problem is and how tto fix it?

What Cam are you running? If the Rocker gear hasbeen previously Removed and the lifter taken out the small Plasitic Retainer clips could be broken...

Or if you are running a larger cam than stock you may have to install Bigger shims

no it is hell loud like windows up radio on and you can still hear it, but it goes away when you accelarate, but you stop at the lights again and it is back, you can hear it over the zorst at the lights aswell, even in nutral idelling it makes a nosie but you rev it and it will go away after bout 1700 RPM

hmmmm thats interesting.....

There is nothing i can really think of on the inlet side apart from If one of the valve inserts has poped open, I know from experiance that makes A s**t of ticking noise, But if that was the case you would be running on 5 or less cylinders....

What about the hyydraulic lifters? one of them could be F**k...

yeh man.

sim(member on here) used to have a hell loud ticking.

we thought that it was the lifters but he said that he just went and got it fixed and it was something to do with the timing chain.

his ticking sound also disappered after a certain amount of revs but then came back at idle.

dont know if this helps.

you don't have a coil pack.. you have one coil and a distributor. Dizzy is mechanical, and has a spinning rotor arm inside.

Take the distributor cap off, and have a look at the cap, and the rotor button.

Cheers

lol, yeah the coil doesn't make any noise, its solid state, unless thats arcing... where abouts is the ticking? next to which cylinder?

And yes, the dizzy are a prick to get to, but after a while, you learn the trick to them, its all to do with yoga

Im not saying its that, but its possible.

In the dark, run the engine and see if you can see sparks down there or something.

Does it also do it under load?

Cheers
