ahh rats. wouldnt that s**t ya.
used to get heaps of cars come in to the shop where i worked at murwillumbah with ratsak in little containers in the engine bays. used to chew through everything.

maybe the mice chewed a hole in your nice k & n panel, wold explain the dust up the intake, because the filter definately should be stopping that.
unless you have a whole somewhere else in the system? check any rubber parts that might be apart of the system, i had some cracks (more like holes) in the rubber sections of the intake on my wagon.

I had to diagnose a truck with low power a few years back. Intake restriction was through the roof and unded up being a birds nest with 5 very f**k up miner birds wrapped around the air pre filter.
