Hey lads do the 6cil saloon race cars need cat in there exhaust? how bad does the cat hinder the exhaust flow?

if your talking about a track day car, that you can drive home, the million dollar question is do YOU want it to pass emissions if the need arises?
putting a cat on a car will almost always restrict it in some form. one thing cats dont like a whole lot of is excess heat or abuse. have heard of some cats colapsing on the inside, clogging, melting, glowing red. the reason they arn't at the end of the exhaust is because the need heat to do they're 'job' but the question the designer has is 'the closer to the engine it is, the quicker it gets to temp, too close it wears out faster.' if its saloon car racing, look in to the rules more, i dare say they wouldn't even run one. unless you want it road legal

well the science says they work.
whether they do a whole lot or just hinder zorst flow is another thing. and as for a $200 odd, high flow cat, for an extra kw or something, id spend the money on the cam first. or drill a 10mm hole in the honeycomb structure
