I recently saw a relatively stock BA/BF XT falcon drive past and as I was in a friends import we decided to stir him up at the traffic lights a little bit. To our surprise the falcon shot off spinning both wheels and creating a huge blow-off sound and was really very fast. This was a huge surprise to us, and got me thinking, would he have turbo charged his standard 4.0L 6cyl, or dropped an already turbo charged XR6T motor and put it in?
I have a 2006 BF XT falcon with some minor modifications with none to the engine. As my next car has always been an XR6T, is it worth turbo charging my standard XT falcon? I have never heard of anyone doing this. Does anyone have any advice or experience in this matter?

I've got a mate with a typhoon conversion in an xr6t, I imagine that would be a little easier depending on how much gear you had to start with (extra hardware the 'T' comes with already... Having a BF will make it a little easier on you but you still can't use ba parts which makes it a little more expensive.

It's been discussed plenty on here and the general consensus seems to be to sell it and buy a turbo. prices are dropping like mad lately...

I have been dormant on this site for quite a few months and haven't been checking posts, so I appreciate the heads up and summary.
I might have to have a bit of a hunt around for these posts and put my own interpretation on them to completely rule it out. Thanks a lot for your info!

On another note, I found a very reasonable, mechanically and cosmetically perfect XR6T 2007 BF Mk2 6sp. with 90,000Km for $14,000 o.n.o. which really surprised me as a few years ago when i bought my XT i payed not much less. So i hear what you're saying! Nothing like good old falcon/commodore depreciation!

yep I paid 15 for my 06 bf a few years ago. struggling to get rid of it now because turbos are so cheap these days. beware the thrashed &/or high km ones though.

If you build it, do it properly, that would be the difference.

I have recently acquired an FG XT and was looking to do a turbo upgrade, retaining the original XT motor.
Look at my build thread below to see my list of parts I've thought of so far... It's pricey, but comes in cheaper then a xr6t fg. Plus even if I got a stock fg xr6t I would have to spend money on similar things anyways. So I think it's still cheaper to do it from xt.
Eg xt -upgrade fuel pump, xr6t -still have to upgrade fuel pump...

Ps if anyone would happen to know of a good xt turbo build, please post up link.

AUte, you still have to think of the drive line lol

The gearbox and diff will not withstand the power of forced induction for very long. You might get away with 250-260rwkw, but anything more and you're pushing it.

Yeah, I'm looking into that at the moment... But I'm only planning to run quite low boost figures anyway...

Fair enough. 250rwkw would be plenty to smoke a lot of wankers lol especially if that boost hits early, and you've got bulk torque to go with.

I'd be happy if I could get a reliable setup that will beat any N/A 6 (ford or Holden)... I know I won't be able to run with the big boys, but confidently beating any N/A 6 would be the goal.
